How to Reindex your Magento Store via Command Line


Reindexing is a very powerful tool to keep your data as organized as possible, to ensure your store keeps running fast & smoothly. Normally you would Reindex your data by going to System > Index Management > Reindex Data. However, Reindexing all data from your Admin backend can be a terribly long process.

We therefore recommend that you Reindex your data via SSH in the Command shell. This is the fastest way to Reindex your data. After you have used SSH to navigate to the root folder of your Magento shop, you can use the following commands to start reindexing your data.

If you want to reindex a specific dataset or folder, you can do so by using one of these commands, and choosing the appropriate folder. To be sure, we want a list of all our available indexes. This list can greatly vary per shop, depending on the modules you have installed, so it is recommended to use this command each time you reindex. We can retrieve this list by using this command:

This will give you a list of all the available indexes. To reindex a specific index, use this command.

Where “yourindexfolder” is the name of the index you want to reindex. If you simply just want to reindex all indexes via the command line, use this command instead.
